Yibei Zhao is the Research Partnerships Officer in the Math Innovation Office. He obtained his Bachelor and Master’s degree in the U.S.A and Canada. Prior to being employed at the University of Waterloo, he worked at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and was engaged in various projects tackling food security issues and establishing collaborations between countries. After working for a few years in various industries, Yibei joined the Waterloo-Huawei Joint Innovation Lab in 2018. As a Lab Coordinator, he liaised among stakeholders, managed various lab activities, and supported faculty members with their research funding applications. In 2021, Yibei joined the Math Innovation Office and has continued to support members across the Faculty of Math.
He can help put together applications for many research funding programs, including but not limited to the NSERC Alliance Program, I2I Program, Mitacs-Alliance Joint Program, and CFI-IF Program. Yibei can provide support with pulling information together, getting applications started, reaching out to partners for relevant information and documents, and submitting applications.
Outside of his work routine, Yibei loves to travel. He thinks it is the best way to learn about the world and open his horizons. So far, Yibei has been to 17 countries and lived in 4 (China, Canada, Italy, and U.S.A).
