Biographical sketch: Anna (Epp) Enns (1869?-1939) and her husband Peter Enns (1868-1932) lived in Halbstadt, Molotschna Mennonite Settlement, Ukraine. The couple had no children. One of their nieces was Anna (Enns) Wiens (1897-1984), daughter of David P. and Margaretha Enns. When David and Margaretha and their family left for Canada in 1926, the elder Anna gave a ring to her namesake. Peter and Anna Enns did not immigrate; they were sent into internal exile. Peter Enns died at Tokmak and Anna died seven years later.
Custodial history: Presented by Anna (Epp) Enns to her namesake and niece Anna (Enns) Wiens, probably in 1926. Given by Anna Wiens to her daughter Anna Martha Wiens in the 1950s. Donated to the Archives by Anna Martha Wiens in 2024.
Scope and content: A gold ring, with the initial "A" in gold surrounded by strands of Anna (Epp) Enns's braided hair on the outside of the ring. Since 1926, a gold plate was added to the back of the ring, where they hair had begun to wear away, by a jeweler in Kingsville, Ontario. A note from Anna Martha Wiens accompanies the ring.
