Biographical sketch: Elias B. Brubacher (1918-1996) grew up in the Elmira area. After a grade 8 education, he worked as a hired hand and later as a carpenter. He was baptized into the Old Order Mennonite Church, but joined Elmira Mennonite Church a few years later. He married Elizabeth Knarr in 1944; the couple had 2 children. During the Second World War, Brubacher was a conscientious objector, serving in Alternative Service at the Montreal River camp (1941) and later in British Columbia.

Custodial history: Donated to the Archives by daughter Gladys Brubacher.

Scope and content: Two postcards written to Elias Brubacher while he was in Alternative Service at the Montreal River camp near Sault Ste. Marie.
