Biographical sketch: George Elmore Reaman (July 22, 1889- Dec. 7, 1969) was born in Vaughan Township, York County, Ontario. He married Flora Green in 1914. He received a Ph.D. from Cornell University. He began to teach at the Ontario Agricultural College (University of Guelph) in 1939 and headed the English Department there. In 1954 he began duties at Waterloo Lutheran College, and in 1959 moved to the University of Waterloo. He became very interested in his Swiss-German background and wrote extensively on the topic. His best known book on that theme was Trail of the Black Walnut, published in 1956. He founded the Pennsylvania German Folklore Society.

Custodial history: Donated to the Mennonite Archives of Ontario by the Reaman family in 1978.

Scope and contents: The fonds consists of a marked proof copy of Reaman's Trail of the Huguenots (1962); and offprints of articles by Reaman published in the Morning call (Allentown, Pa.) in that paper's Pennsylvania German column in the 1940s.
