Biographical sketch: Henry Yantzi (Dec. 12, 1913- July 12, 1995) was ordained as a deacon (July 16, 1940) in the Ontario Amish Mennonite Conference, as well as a minister (Oct. 12, 1947), and as a bishop (May 30, 1948 by Samuel Schultz). He served in a total of eight congregations, and served several terms as moderator of the Western Ontario Mennonite Conference. At the time of his death, Yantzi was Pastor Emeritus at the Hillcrest Mennonite Church.
Henry Yantzi married Lily Mae Schwartzentruber (May 28, 1912-) on October 14, 1936. They had nine children. They lived in the New Hamburg - Tavistock, Ontario area most of their life, except for a time when Henry pastored the Hunta Mennonite Church near Cochrane, Ontario.
Scope and content: The fonds consists primarily of subject files maintained by Yantzi as part of his pastoral ministry. Some of these files also include handwritten notes by both Henry and Mae Yantzi. There are a few notes in some files from Henry's father, Daniel R. Yantzi (1882-1929).
Henry and Mae Yantzi compiled and published, The family history and genealogy of Michael B. Yantzi and Jacobena (Kennel) Yantzi in 1991.
Custodial history: The collection was donated by Yantzi's son, Mark Yantzi, in late 1996.
Notes:
Yantzi's file on Brantford Mennonite Church has been transferred to that congregation's collection (XXX-3).
The treasurer's book for the Ontario Amish Conference, 1924-1949 has been transferred to the Western Ontario Mennonite Conference collection (IV-2.3.1).
