Biographical sketch: Jacob Schantz (1710-1781) arrived in Pennsylvania from Switzerland in 1737. His son Christian Schantz moved to Waterloo County in 1810, settling near Freeport. Following the death of Jacob's son Isaac, his widow Barbara (Reiff) and her children settled in Canada. One of Isaac and Barbara's sons was Christian R. Shantz.
Custodial history: Donated to the Archives by James M. Shantz (2012) and Ralph and Eileen Shantz (2020)
Scope and content: Contains:
- a genealogy manuscript of the descendants of Jacob Schantz and a listing of the Shantz family reunion records, some of which are held by Special Collections at the University of Waterloo (GA91) and others of which are in private hands,
- a page entitled "Good advice to you my children from your father Preacher Jacob Hallman"
- a death notice for Jakob Schantz (1797-1871)
- a poster illustrating the Christian R. Shantz family tree (located in map case)
- Notes on the Christian R. Shantz and Magdalena (Showalter Cressman) family compiled by Ralph and Dorothy Shantz, including copies of the will of Christian R. Shantz and a deed relating to his property.
