Biographical sketch: The Michael Schwartzentruber family was the first Amish family to arrive in the Waterloo region directly from Europe, in 1823. The family resided with Benjamin Eby in Waterloo Township until 1826, when they moved to Lot 9 on the south side of Snyder's Road, Wilmot Township. Schwartzentruber descendants lived on the farm for over 100 years.
Custodial history: These documents were in the possession of Elroy Swartzentruber in 2016 when they were loaned to Fred Lichti and the Archives for copying.
Scope and content: The fonds consists mostly of deeds transferring the land to various Schwartzentruber owners. Early citizenship documents are also included.
