Biographical Sketch: Hubert Schwartzentruber (July 17, 1929-    ) was the youngest child of Joseph Schwartzentruber and Lavina Roth. He was born in Zurich, Ontario. On Sept. 15, 1957 he married June Lambke (June 13, 1932-July 9, 1984); they had two children. After June's death, Hubert married Mary Rittenhouse, a teacher from Pennsylvania.

Hubert was one of a number of young men from the Ontario Amish Mennonite Conference who went on to higher education at Eastern Mennonite College. He was ordained as a minister in the Mennonite Church in 1958. Hubert and June Schwartzentruber first served at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in St. Louis from 1957-1972. This was a racially integrated congregation. Then Hubert served at the Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries from 1972 through 1979, while June studied at seminary and worked in several church agency offices. In 1979 they moved to Toronto where they served as mission consultants for the Mennonite Conference of Ontario and Quebec. Hubert continued in this role after June's death. In about 1990 he and Mary moved to Pennsylvania where he took additional pastoral and conference assignments until retirement.
