Title: Moses Shirk fonds

Biographical history: Moses Sherk (31 March 1849-18 December 1928) was the third child of Abraham Sherk and Lucy Buckler Sharick/Sherk. On 28 October 1873 he married Caroline Huber (d. 7 October 1891) in the Freeport United Brethren Church. He was a farmer, but also trained for ministry at the Freeport Academy. He was a fulltime minister in the United Brethen in Christ Church from 1874-1878, and served as a circuit minister for many years, (e.g. in the Shelbourne/Badjeros area and in Saugeen County, Ontario).
In 1884 the family moved to Michigan to Lapeer County to farm. Moses and Caroline had a total of 10 children. After her death he married Catharine B. Musselman (3 November 1856-1903) on 28 December 1898. He then married Esther (Hettie) Groh. In later years he was a member of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ church in Brown City, Michigan.
The fonds consists of the Moses Sherk family Bible, photocopies of genealogical records of the Moses Sherk family found in the Bible, and photographs and loose items found in the Bible. Annotations are provided by J. Harold Sherk, a descendant of Moses Sherk. Biographical information is provided by Vernon Sherk.
Custodial history: The photocopies were donated to the Mennonite Archives of Ontario in April 2008 by J. Harold Sherk. The Bible was donated to the Archives by Leone and Vernon Sherk in 2016.
