The Mennonite Coalition for Refugee Support formally began in 1987 as a cooperative effort of four Mennonite congregations in the Kitchener-Waterloo area: First Mennonite Church, Stirling Ave. Mennonite Church, Olive Branch Mennonite Church and Breslau Mennonite Church.
The concern of the new organization was to find ways to strengthen the support system for refugess claimants living in the area. First Mennonite Church brought particular expertise to the effort because of its earlier work with Hmong and Latain American refugees .
The fonds consists of board minutes from 1987 to 1993. Also included are a few earlier documents from a "refugee support" project at First Mennonite Church..
Custodial History: The fonds was donated to the Mennonite Archives of Ontario by First Mennonite Church in 2006.
