Dates of creation: [after 1854], 1900, 1915, [1932?], 1940
Physical description: 9 leaves of textual records
Biographical history: David Martin (1771-1854) was born in Pennsylvania and came to Canada in 1820. He was married twice, to Maria Gut (variants include Guth or Good) (1775-1820) who died shortly after the family arrived in Canada, and Catharina Gut (1777-1848), who was Maria's first cousin. David had 13 children with Maria. The family settled on Lot 65, German Company Tract, in Waterloo Township. David and Catharina are buried at Martins Mennonite Meetinghouse cemetery in Waterloo, Ontario.
Elizabeth M. Brubacher (1878-1914), married Menno B. Bowman of Woolwich Township in 1900. Menno Bowman later married Elizabeth B. Martin (b. 1879) in 1915 and Rebecca B. Martin (b. 1892) in 1940. All three women were direct descendants of David and Maria Martin.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of:
- a printed broadside family register of David and Maria Martin and their children, produced sometime after David's death,
- marriage certificates (handwritten on printed forms) for Menno B. Bowman's three marriages,
- handwritten genealogical notes on Menno B. Bowman's parents (Barbara (Bauman) Bowman and Henry Bowman) and siblings,
- handwritten genealogical notes on Elizabeth M. Brubacher's siblings.
Custodial history: A photocopy of the family register was received by the Archives in 1994 from an unknown donor. The original register and other records were found amoung some quilting materials bought at auction by Miriam Bauman in 2019, and donated to the Archives that same year. The records were received from Rosanne Atwater-Hallatt.
