Title: Jacob J. Rempel fonds
Dates of creation: [1920?]
Physical description: 2 cm of textual records
Biographical sketch: Jacob J. Rempel (1886-1957) was born in Rosenthal, Chortitza, South Russia and left for Germany in 1922. He married and had a daughter, Irene (Rempel) Puttkammer.
Custodial history: Donated to the Archives in 2021 by John D. Rempel. Received by John Rempel from his cousin Irene Puttkammer. Irene received it from her father Jacob J. Rempel, who carried it from Russia to Germany when he emmigrated.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of a 178 page carbon copy manuscript. The manuscript is untitled, but on the containing folder was written "Schlaunze Bericht Ueber Menn. Kolonien um 1920." It appears to be a detailed description of aspects of life in the Chortitza and Molotschna Mennonite colonies following the 1917 Russian Revolution. The author appears to be a German national who was not a Mennonite.
Notes: Original archival description created 2021 by Laureen Harder-Gissing with notes from John D. Rempel.
Generally 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday to Friday. An appointment in advance is recommended.
