Biographical sketch: Christian Eby (1821-1859), born near the nascent village of Berlin (later Kitchener, Ontario), was the eighth child of Bishop Benjamin and Maria (Brubacher) Eby. He married Mary Cressman in 1843; the couple had two children but neither survived infancy. Christian Eby was a farmer who was ordained as a minister in 1854 shortly after his father's death. He was said to be a gifted and knowledgeable preacher and church leader, however his time in this role was brief due to ailing health.
