Title: Elmon Bender fonds

Physical description: 12 photographs ; 2 objects
Biographical sketch: Elmon Bender (1921-1999) was the son of Aaron and Delila Bender. He grew up in East Zorra, Ontario and attended Cassel Mennonite Church. Elmon was a conscientious objector, and served in Alternative Service at Montreal River Alternative Service Work Camp in northern Ontario in the winter of 1942-1943. He married Hilda Roth in 1945. The couple farmed near New Hamburg and later East Zorra. He also ran a cheese booth at the Kitchener Market.
Custodial history: Donated by Elmon Bender's daughters in 2016
Scope and content: Photographs of camp life and work at Montreal River, a homemade calendar for 1942 featuring a picture of the camp, and a colourized photograph of the camp framed with birch bark
