Title: Jacob Gross family fonds

Biographical sketch: Jacob Gross (Dec. 22, 1780-) was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and immigrated to Clinton Township, Lincoln County, Ontario ca. 1815. He first married Anna Moyer on Dec. 18, 1817 and second married Salome Moyer on Aug. 23, 1830. He was ordained as a minister in the Mennonite church in Niagara in 1833 and was confirmed bishop in 1834. He left the Mennonite Church in 1849 and joined the Evangelical Association.
Custodial history: Photocopies made and donated to the Archives in the 1980s. The originals are housed at the Mennonite Historical Library in Harleysville, Pa. where they were donated by Barbara F. Coffman.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of 45 pieces correspondence with the Jacob Gross family over many years. The photocopies include both the German original and an English translation. A listing of the letters is included in the folder.
