Biographical sketch: Joseph Smith was born 26 March 1897 to Jacob Smith (1870-1945) and Ella Lehman Smith (1872-1970). In 1918, he was assigned to basic training due to an administrative error. Preacher Thomas Reesor advocated on his behalf, and he was later released. On 26 March 1921 he married Sarah Reesor (2 August 1895-25 October 1998). They had five children. Joseph farmed in Scarborough Township in York County and retired in 1975 to Listowel, Ontario.

Custodial history: Donated to the Mennonite Archives of Ontario in 2007 except as noted below.
