Waterloo alumnus is new Parliamentary Poet Laureate

Waterloo alumnus and nationally celebrated writer George Elliott Clarke adds Parliamentary Poet Laureate to his long and illustrious post-graduation track record. Announced recently, his two-year appointment with Canada’s Parliament is dedicated to the promotion of writing and reading poetry in English and French for all Canadians.

Expert Advisory: Foodborne diseases sicken 1 in 10 worldwide

She collected data on Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) for the report. STEC is the same bacteria responsible for the E. coli outbreak in Walkerton, Ontario in May 2000.

The World Health Organization found that each year, foodborne diseases cause 600 million illnesses and 420,000 deaths around the word.
