Universities to explore big ideas for small and medium businesses

At an event at the Waterloo Inn on Thursday, the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University will shine a spotlight on private-sector partnerships in Waterloo Region. The event will demonstrate how small and medium sized businesses can benefit from cutting-edge research and technology, innovation, knowledge transfer, and student talent at universities.

Students, faculty and staff from the University of Waterloo will be out in force to bring that Friday feeling to Waterloo today with a sweep of events for Random Act of Kindness Day®.

The University is partnering with the Federation of Students and The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation to engage citizens in small acts of kindness and generosity to build a stronger community.

Waterloo Engineering: Most female first-year students ever

Young women make up 27 per cent of the first-year class studying engineering disciplines at the University of Waterloo this year - the largest number ever.

It’s a significant increase from a decade ago when only about 15 per cent of first-year students studying engineering were female. The jump is notable because Waterloo’s largest programs are electrical and mechanical engineering which are typically male-dominated, says Mary Wells, associate dean outreach for Waterloo Engineering.

Waterloo startup will connect First Nations to Asian investors

While working at a co-op job in Hong Kong, Waterloo student Robert Beamish’s boss asked him to organize a business pitch competition in Beijing.

Then she told Beamish he would be the first presenter to make a pitch.

“It was the push I needed,” says Beamish, a fourth-year economics and business student in the Faculty of Arts.

Waterloo approves $88M Engineering 7 building

The University of Waterloo’s Board of Governors has approved the construction of a new $88-million Engineering 7 (E7) building.

The 230,000-square-foot, seven-storey building will house Waterloo Engineering’s ongoing transformation of how it delivers education to students.

The University of Waterloo’s Board of Governors approved the construction of the $88-million Engineering 7 (E7) building yesterday. The University’s Building and Properties Committee made the proposal for the 230,000-square-foot, seven-storey building to house Waterloo Engineering’s ongoing transformation of how it delivers education to students.
