The Hon. John Milloy, the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (WWLHIN) and the University of Waterloo invite you to an announcement on Thursday, December 19 about the Skills for Safer Living Program, a suicide prevention program being extended to university and college students in Waterloo Wellington.

Young adults want to live close to transit, high-density housing, and urban amenities, says research out of the University of Waterloo appearing in an upcoming issue of the Canadian Geographer.

Contrary to traditional ideas of neighbourhood gentrification defined along class lines, this research examines a new division of space, in urban core areas increasingly populated by young adults who have delayed child-bearing and increased educational attainment with a decline in economic prospects and the extension of a youthful phase.

A first-of-its-kind, world-class laboratory that could lead to the creation of quantum materials for use in a new generation of technologies opened at the University of Waterloo’s Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) today.

Quantum materials are needed as the building blocks of robust quantum devices that will be able to function outside of laboratory settings bringing the possibility of a quantum computer one step closer.

Harsh winter conditions may be easier for Canadians to manage with new products invented by two University of Waterloo graduates.

“Frost is a major problem for individuals and businesses daily. Not only is it inconvenient but it has an impact on safety and can even hinder economic activity,” said Abhinay Kondamreddy, a nanotechnology engineering graduate who developed Neverfrost along with three classmates.

The first class of an innovative biomedical engineering program that connects students to the medical community will start at the University of Waterloo next fall.

The new program in Canada's largest engineering school will give students the unique opportunity to blend hands-on design expertise with workplace experiences and academic studies.

The University of Waterloo will offer a new degree in biomedical engineering from Fall 2014 that closes the gap between medicine and engineering.

The new undergraduate program will be housed in the Faculty of Engineering’s Department of Systems Design Engineering and will build on Waterloo’s foundation of leadership in experiential education, engineering and technology.

For the third time in four years, a University of Waterloo graduate has won the national and Ontario gold medals for the Chartered Accountancy Uniform Final Examination (UFE). 

George Tsai of Waterloo's Master of Accounting program in the School of Accounting and Finance won the prestigious Governor General’s Gold Medal and the Ontario Gold Medal for having achieved the highest standing in Canada on the UFE.
