How about being able to identify future health issues long before they happen by simply looking at patterns in your DNA.

Professor Steve Manske from the University of Waterloo is available to speak to the media on the Canadian Cancer Society’s new report on the use of flavoured tobacco among Canadian youth.  

Professor Manske can also address the various provincial releases related to the national release, such as those from the Ontario Campaign for Action on Tobacco and Campaign for a Smoke-Free Alberta.

Lose the grades, lose the exams, and don't worry if all the kids in a class are not the same age. That's what a gathering of international education leaders is recommending in a dramatic new learning roadmap released today.

The sweeping recommendations of the Equinox Summit: Learning 2030 (a product of the Waterloo Global Science Initiative) also propose eliminating grades 9 through 12 in favour of groupings of students based on ability and area of study.

The Canadian Research Data Centre Network’s 2013 conference, Canadian Data: Looking Back, Moving Forward, will present recent evidence on public issues, such as health and health services, the integration of newcomers, children’s well-being, and aboriginal issues.

It’s not just a report on a shelf, says Linda McKessock, project manager for the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW), a University of Waterloo-based organization aimed at helping close the gap between Canada’s rising GDP and the population’s lagging wellbeing.

A successful entrepreneur who has made his mark in the high-tech world by providing data protection is returning to the University of Waterloo after launching a new fund to support budding entrepreneurs studying engineering.

Alumni who have gone on to be entrepreneurs, current students and faculty from the University of Waterloo are participants at the Equinox Summit: Learning 2030, a Waterloo conference drawing education innovators from around the world.

When William Zhou started his computer science degree at the University of Waterloo he was also in the midst of launching his first company.

It was 2010, but after spending his first term as tech support for the startup that eventually got sold to a UK firm, Zhou vowed to focus on his studies.

But apparently, you can’t keep a good entrepreneur down.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey told students at the University of Waterloo on Thursday that his most recent venture, Square, is about “building a company of entrepreneurs.”
