It’s decision time for nearly 4,000 future students and family members expected to visit the University of Waterloo this weekend.

You@Waterloo Day, taking place Saturday, May 25, offers students who have received an undergraduate offer of admission the chance to meet professors, staff, and students; take campus or residence tours; and speak with current students about their personal "Waterloo experience."

On Saturday, May 25, seven teams of high-school students will race electric cars around the University of Waterloo as part of the second annual Toyota High School Electric Vehicle Challenge 2013.

The Electric Vehicle Challenge pits vehicles designed and built by high school students against each other in two endurance races. The cars are powered by 12-Volt automotive batteries, and will race around a temporary track set up around the Waterloo’s engineering faculty buildings.

The public is invited to watch high schools teams, who have designed and built their own electric vehicles, race at the University of Waterloo’s Toyota High School Electric Vehicle Challenge on Saturday.

“The EV Challenge is a great opportunity for us to engage the community,” says Peter Teertstra, director of the Faculty of Engineering’s Student Design Centre (SDC). “We get to show off our facilities and highlight Waterloo Engineering’s research strengths, all while inspiring future engineers.”

Waterloo, ON (Wednesday, May 22, 2013) - The University of Waterloo will this week host its annual conference intended to increase an interest in math-related careers among girls. 

Forty girls in grade 9 classes across Ontario will attend Think About Math on Friday, May 24 at the Waterloo campus.  The one-day workshop, now in its fifth year, highlights interesting careers and applications of mathematics.

A wireless “data logger” planted in electric cars will give University of Waterloo researchers the information they need to build and support the electric car of the future.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Friday, May 17, 2013) – A team of undergraduate students from the University of Waterloo has won a significant microrobotics competition, and they did it in less than one second.

Co-op students at the University of Waterloo graduate with less debt and report being more satisfied with their co-op experiences than students surveyed at other universities in Ontario, according to a report.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Wednesday, May 8, 2013)  - The University of Waterloo Stratford Campus began accepting submissions from presenters today for an international conference on gamification - the term for using game design in a range of tasks to make them more fun, engaging and motivating.

Small but sunlit, the composure room in the new Health Services Building at the University of Waterloo highlights the attention to detail being paid these days to mental-health care.

Most of the services on the second floor focus on mental health. The composure room offers a refuge where overwhelmed clients can collect their thoughts. The building opened in February. The Canadian Mental Health Association has designated May 6 – 12 as Mental Health Week, with a focus on youth this year.

This summer, Jessica VandenBussche will put the pedal to the pavement—and gravel, and dirt roads.

On June 12, the applied health sciences graduate is setting off on a two-month long bike ride across Canada to support the Canadian Mental Health Association and raise awareness about the link between physical exercise and mental health.
