(Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011) - Lego robots, along with creative thinking, problem-solving skills and teamwork, will be in action at the University of Waterloo on Sunday, Dec. 4 as 250 youngsters aged nine to 14 compete in the WE-Connect FIRST League Lego (FLL) Waterloo qualifier, co-sponsored by Waterloo Engineering.

The new Graduate Diploma in Social Innovation (gradsi.ca), which enrolled 34 multi-sector leaders from across Canada, is focusing on three key issues - aging, new comers to Canada and mental health - in its inaugural year.

The event is being held to strengthen and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Canada-Japan Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology, and to advance research projects between international collaborators.

The Minto Group gives major donation to Waterloo's Environment 3

WATERLOO, Ont. (Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011) - The Minto Group announced today it has donated $1 million to the University of Waterloo’s newest building in the faculty of environment, Environment 3.

The building showcases innovative sustainable design and is on track to meet exacting criteria for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum status - an internationally accepted benchmark for high-performance green buildings.

Waterloo engineering students pay it forward ... 10 million times

WATERLOO, Ont. (Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2011) - An endowment fund started by engineering students at the University of Waterloo in 1990 has just passed the $10 million plateau. It is believed to be the first and largest student-run endowment fund in Canada.

A celebration of the Waterloo Engineering Endowment Fund's $10 million milestone will be held Thursday, Nov. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the foyer of the Carl Pollock Hall building at the University of Waterloo.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Friday, Nov. 4, 2011) - The University of Waterloo - ranked one of the world's top 100 universities and top by reputation in Canada - will open an office in Hong Kong Saturday, Nov. 5 to strengthen ties with the Hong Kong community. President Feridun Hamdullahpur is in Hong Kong for the opening, where he will host members of the business community, partners, alumni and students at the opening event.

University of Waterloo's fall open house invites students, parents

WATERLOO, Ont. (Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011) - Thousands of prospective university students and their families can learn about campus life at the University of Waterloo during an all-day event on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Close to 5,000 visitors are expected at the University of Waterloo's fall open house - mostly on the main campus, with some at Waterloo's school of architecture in Cambridge and school of pharmacy in Kitchener.

Waterloo's open house event is held as students are making up their minds about which universities best suit their needs.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011) - The University of Waterloo will host its annual science open house this weekend to introduce children and their parents to an assortment of fun and hands-on activities.

The free annual event, hosted by the faculty of science, offers activities and demonstrations aimed at children from kindergarten to grade eight, as well as their families.
