WATERLOO, Ont. (Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011) - The Minto Group announced today it has donated $1 million to the University of Waterloo’s newest building in the faculty of environment, Environment 3.

The building showcases innovative sustainable design and is on track to meet exacting criteria for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum status - an internationally accepted benchmark for high-performance green buildings.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2011) - An endowment fund started by engineering students at the University of Waterloo in 1990 has just passed the $10 million plateau. It is believed to be the first and largest student-run endowment fund in Canada.

A celebration of the Waterloo Engineering Endowment Fund's $10 million milestone will be held Thursday, Nov. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the foyer of the Carl Pollock Hall building at the University of Waterloo.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011) - Thousands of prospective university students and their families can learn about campus life at the University of Waterloo during an all-day event on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Close to 5,000 visitors are expected at the University of Waterloo's fall open house - mostly on the main campus, with some at Waterloo's school of architecture in Cambridge and school of pharmacy in Kitchener.

Waterloo's open house event is held as students are making up their minds about which universities best suit their needs.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011) - The University of Waterloo will host its annual science open house this weekend to introduce children and their parents to an assortment of fun and hands-on activities.

The free annual event, hosted by the faculty of science, offers activities and demonstrations aimed at children from kindergarten to grade eight, as well as their families.

(Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011) - Canada has become a world leader in measuring wellbeing with the launch of a new comprehensive composite index set to challenge the gross domestic product (GDP) as the sole measure of our country's progress, says the Honourable Roy Romanow, advisory board chair for the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW), located at the University of Waterloo.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011) - The former chief scientific advisor to the British government will give the annual Arthur J. Carty lecture at the University of Waterloo this week.

Sir David King, currently the director of the Smith School of Enterprise and Environment at Oxford University, was the British government's chief scientific advisor under prime ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown and head of the government office for science from 2000 until 2007.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011) - A prominent expert in nuclear and particle physics will give a public lecture today on the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) experiment at the University of Waterloo.

Art McDonald, director of the SNO and a physics professor at Queen's University, will give a talk entitled Exploring the Universe from Two Kilometres Underground.

WATERLOO, Ont. (Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011) - A University of Waterloo professor, Geoffrey Fong, has received the largest operating grant ever awarded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for his team's groundbreaking work on tobacco smoking control policies around the world.
