The Indigenous Peoples of the University of Waterloo asked Vivek Goel, Waterloo's president and vice-chancellor, for a full commitment to reconciliation, Indigenization and decolonization at the institution today.  

Goel acknowledged the University’s full commitment through a formal Commitment Ceremony.  

“As an institution of learning, the University has a unique role to play in working towards truth and reconciliation,” Goel said. “We must ensure that Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing are represented in our scholarship, research and teachings.”

On her 20th birthday Ariana was struck and killed by a driver near Canmore, Alberta’s Visitor Information Centre. The driver of the vehicle that struck Ariana has still not been located.

When Pira Ravikumaran arrived at Hack the North on Friday night, he admits he felt a little nervous.

As a fourth-year Chemical Engineering student at Waterloo, he was new to coding and wasn’t sure if his lack of experience would be a problem. The 36-hour turbocharged (and highly caffeinated) event brings together over a thousand students, experts and sponsors from around the world to Waterloo’s campus each year to code, compete, learn and network.

When Ian Evans (BES ’14, MSc ’17) graduated, giving back to the University of Waterloo wasn’t a priority. Today, he’s a passionate donor who chooses to give back monthly. Below, he shares what changed his mind and the practical reasons why he joined the monthly giving program.

What prompted you to become a donor to the University of Waterloo?

Jacinda Reitsma has been named Vice-President, Administration and Finance effective December 1, 2022.  Reitsma is currently Vice-President Finance and Corporate Services and Secretary-Treasurer of the Board at Conestoga College.

A broadly representative Nominating Committee participated in the extensive search process and endorsed the appointment. 

For Celine Isimbi, an undergrad student, studying in the Faculty of Environment offered her the perfect opportunity to balance her studies and work in environmental liberation.
