Four world-class academics pursuing research to improve society are the inaugural recipients of the AMTD Waterloo Global Talent Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Waterloo.
The five-year program was made possible by a generous donation from the AMTD Foundation, led by Waterloo alumnus Calvin Choi (BA ’01). 

Backed by a new postdoctoral program, a chemical engineering researcher will spend the next couple of years designing innovative technology to remove toxic chemicals from wastewater.

The University of Waterloo honoured 125 educators and researchers who have received the President’s Excellence in Teaching and Research awards 2020 in an online celebration that recognized their contributions to the Waterloo community and beyond.

Yang, a new Master of Applied Science student in Electrical and Computer Engineering (quantum information) has a passion for acoustic and superconducting waves who discovered quantum information science while learning how to make photonic devices. She was instantly intrigued by the possibilities that quantum research offered her.

Projects by students from Waterloo Engineering took both runner-up prizes in the Canadian leg of the James Dyson Award competition for student inventors.

SmartPatrol, which uses computer vision to prevent injuries at ski resorts, and Scope, which is developing a better zoom function for smartphone cameras, now move on to the international portion of the 27-country competition.

In 1972, Scott Vanstone (BMath '70, MMath '71, PhD '74) walked into Ron Mullin’s (MA '60, PhD '64) office and told him he wanted to be his student.  Originally, Scott started studying chemistry at the University of Waterloo, but switched to math.

A group of high school students headed to the University of Waterloo this September have been named 2020 Schulich Leaders.

The prestigious award comes with an $80,000 or $100,000 scholarship made possible by businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich. 

This year, the Schulich Leader Scholarship program supports 100 young Canadians pursuing a STEM degree.

A group of exceptionally talented incoming students are making their way to Waterloo with a prestigious scholarship in tow.

Thanks to a $100+ million investment by businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich, Waterloo has more than doubled its recipient pool from previous years allowing selected students pursuing STEM to begin their post-secondary careers with an extra $80,000 or $100,000.

The co-op program at Waterloo Engineering was a major draw for an incoming student who will start her studies this fall with backing from a prestigious scholarship worth up to $100,000.

Anson Yu of Langley, BC, is the latest Loran Scholar to choose Waterloo after landing a four-year scholarship aimed at finding and supporting high-potential young Canadians.

While many live events are being cancelled due to restrictions for in-person gatherings, Concept continues to showcase their achievements and successes by hosting virtual competitions. Similar to Velocity’s virtual Fund Pitch Competition (VFPC), Concept pivoted two of their major in-person events to video submissions which garnered more than one hundred applicants combined. Audiences were then invited to virtually attend each event where a panel of local startup founders scored and selected the final winners.
