In 2017, the University of Waterloo celebrates 60 years of innovation. When it was founded July 1, 1957, no one knew that a campus made up of two temporary buildings would have such a lasting impact on the world.

 Velocity is an entrepreneurship program at Waterloo that provides the knowledge, workspace, community and funding that startups need to succeed.

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada. Established in 1991 by the Canadian government, the day marks the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. They died because they were women.

A company recently named one of the top female-founded tech startups is among the big winners at the Velocity Fund Finals held today at the University of Waterloo. Velocity is a comprehensive entrepreneurship program at Waterloo.

Velocity is a comprehensive entrepreneurship program at Waterloo, and Velocity Garage is the largest free startup incubator in the world.

Ten companies will compete for four prizes of $25,000. Judges will present one winner with an additional $10,000 for the top hardware pitch. Another 10 early-stage startups will compete for one of three awards of $5,000.
