Efficacy, effectiveness, and knowledge translation of psychotherapy research

Dr. Mittelstaedt received his Honour’s BA from the University of Waterloo, and MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan in 1985 and 1989, respectively.

He is Director of Campus Wellness at the University of Waterloo.

Dr. Mittelstaedt’s interests in psychological intervention research emanate from years of providing, supervising or arranging psychotherapy services. While there is considerable promise to the evidence-based psychotherapy movement, client presenting problems, along with constraints associated with funding or other environmental factors often do not match the conditions of studies from which we derive the evidence base for psychotherapy. Dr. Mittelstaedt is interested in studying promising practices and the conditions in which they are supported, to ensure that our evidence-base generalizes to many clinical situations.
