Alexandra Van Der Valk

Graduate Student

Alex is a second-year Master’s student in Cognitive Psychology. She earned her BSc in Psychology (Hons) from Saint Mary’s University (Nova Scotia) in 2017.

She then worked for 4 years as a Research Assistant in Geriatric Medicine, validating frailty assessment tools and exploring the precipitates of unhealthy aging.

Alex’s current research interests intersect social, cognitive, and health psychology, with particular interest in a) the underpinnings of selfish, biased, or misinformed decision-making, and b) how we can harness that information to encourage people to engage in more accurate or prosocial behaviour (e.g. climate change, politics, public health).
