Insights for the National Professional Practice Exam, a step towards P.Eng

Wednesday, June 14, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Anxious, worried, or just plain confused by the National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE)? Join alumni, soon-to-be-graduates, and our two guest speakers who will talk through the NPPE syllabus, its duration, and how to register for it through Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) at our event on Wednesday, June 14th at 7pm. Bring your questions - Professor Roydon Fraser, P.Eng., FEC; and Michelle Liu, P.Eng, MASc, LEED-GA are happy to do their best to answer your burning NPPE questions.

All applicants who wish to become a Professional Engineer through PEO must pass the NPPE as the second stage of their application (https://www.peo.on.ca/licence-applications/become-professional-engineer). Outside the PEO, your specific provincial engineering association may have a similar or equivalent requirement. We encourage those who have started or are currently applying for their P.Eng designation and know they will need to take the NPPE to attend!

Roydon Fraser

Professor Roydon Fraser, P.Eng., FEC

You might know Professor Fraser from his work on campus as a professor with the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering or from his years of service on campus in roles such as past-President of the University of Waterloo Faculty Association. What you may not know is that Professor Fraser has been volunteering with PEO since 1994! With literal decades of experience volunteering with the PEO in what seems like every capacity, Professor Fraser is a great resource on the NPPE - from the PEO website: "his views and arguments are based on a firm understanding of the fundamental principles of professional self-regulation.", which is incredibly important and useful for the context of the NPPE.

You might know Michelle from her work on campus as champion of EDI initiatives or simply a fellow Civil Engineering 2018 alumni! What you may not know is that Michelle not only has a P.Eng with PEO meaning she has passed the NPPE, she is also an outspoken advocate for greater inclusion and diversity in engineering, including by serving as an Ontario Network for Women in Engineering mentor, Chair of the Waterloo Engineering Alumni Council, a stakeholder of the 30 by 30 initiative, and by participating in outreach and recruitment events and in engineering admission processes. Michelle Liu is also an appointed member of the Equity Advisory Group of the Law Society of Ontario. Engineers Canada named Michelle Liu one of thirteen EDI Leaders in Engineering Workplaces in 2021-2022, which followed her 2019 Certificate of Recognition from City of Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky for her community contributions, and her Kitchener-Waterloo Women of the Year finalist standing in the same year, among other awards.
