What are you doing now and how does your engineering education from Waterloo help with your life today?
Currently, I’m working in the software industry, leveraging AI to streamline and automate call center operations. Alongside this, I run a small business called Raise the Bar Events, where we provide a range of beverage services to elevate corporate and private events. My engineering education from the University of Waterloo has been invaluable for both roles—not only for the technical foundation it provided but also for the hands-on problem-solving, project planning, and precise time management skills I developed. These abilities have proven essential in balancing the demands of a startup while excelling in a fast-paced tech environment.

Why did you decide to be a part of REAC?
I’ve always aimed to positively impact and enhance every environment I’m part of. During my undergraduate studies at UW, I strived to contribute meaningfully, but I often felt limited by time. Now, as an alum, I have a greater opportunity to give back on a larger scale. Joining REAC allows me to stay connected with the UW community while creating growth opportunities.

What is a favourite piece of advice or quote that you would be interested in sharing?
Never stagnate—keep moving. Build a life of attempts rather than regrets.

What was your favourite place to eat at in Waterloo?
Brunch at Mel's Diner

What are your plans for the near future?:
In the near future, I plan to continue growing my small business, exploring just how far I can take it. I've already achieved more than I initially imagined, and I'm motivated to see what new heights are possible. Alongside this, I’m eager to experience as much as I can, embracing new opportunities and challenges now that I have the flexibility to do so.

Do you have any specific professional or career goals that you are working towards?
I’m currently focused on continuing my transition from systems and mechanical design into software development. While I have a strong affinity for physical systems, I find the rapid design feedback and flexibility of software particularly rewarding. Additionally, one of my key goals is to continue making Raise the Bar Events into a widely recognized brand within the events industry. I’m committed to expanding our reach, building stronger industry connections, and creating memorable experiences for our clients as we grow.

Do you have any fun and/or interesting media recommendations?
I recommend The Prestige for anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers. It follows the rivalry of two magicians and the lengths they are willing to go in order to surpass one each other.  It’s a compelling film that raises interesting questions about ambition and sacrifice.
