Chantal Gautreau

Ph.D. Candidate, Clinical Psychology

Chantal
Chantal completed her B.Sc. Honours in Psychology at Dalhousie University in 2013 and then completed her M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 2016. Afterwards, she worked as a Research Coordinator for the Personality Research Team at Dalhousie University before entering the Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology at the University of Waterloo in 2014. Chantal’s work is supervised by Dr. Uzma Rehman.

Chantal's research focuses on exploring interpersonal models of sexuality. For example, Chantal has investigated how the broader context of the relationship, such as the degree of openness and disclosure between romantic partners, is critical to understanding how a particular sexual behaviour, such as pornography use, impacts the quality of the sexual relationship. She is currently examining women's distressing thoughts about their bodies during sex, and how that is influenced by their romantic partners, as well as their own body image concerns. Chantal's research is funded by SSHRC, OGS, and President's Graduate Scholarship.

Clinically, Chantal works primarily with adults experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties. She has specific therapy and assessment experience with anxiety, mood, and trauma. Chantal is also interested in gaining clinical experience with couples therapy and sex therapy.

Outside of school, Chantal enjoys activities such as painting, calligraphy, and learning how to sew and crochet. She also enjoys camping, hiking, reading a good book, cooking, and playing board games with others.
