Actuarial Short Course XI - Financial Engineering I

On April 12-15, 2019, the READI Project conducted a short course on “Financial Engineering I”. The training was the 11th of the series of short course held in collaboration with the University of Waterloo in which the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science faculty members have led the teaching on all short courses. Prof. Ken Seng Tan, PhD, ASA, CERA, and Sunlife Fellowship in International Actuarial Science, was the instructor of the 4 days intensive training program. READI also invited Steven Chen, FSA, FCIA, CFA, MAA, an alumni of uWaterloo, as the guest speaker to provide a practitioners’ perspective on Financial Engineering.

Steven Chen a Principal of the Asia-Pacific Insurance Practice of Oliver Wyman, recently relocated to Asia from the Toronto office of Oliver Wyman Actuarial Consulting. He has over a decade of life insurance and annuity experience and has provided actuarial services to a wide array of clients, including life insurers, reinsurers, law firms, regulators, and private equity firms. Steven specializes in life insurance mergers & acquisitions, risk-based capital, variable annuity reserving and hedging, stochastic modeling, and insurance litigation matters.

The short course was held in Jakarta and was attended by 39 participants, comprising of actuarial lecturers from 11 universities, and participants from OJK, Ministry of Finance and BPJS Kesehatan.
