The Readi short course, Actuarial Mathematics II, was held at Pelita Harapan University, Tangerang, Indonesia from May 15 to 19, 2017. This course is the continuation of the previous Actuarial Mathematics I short course in January 2017. The series of short courses is aiming to strengthen the capacity of actuarial science and risk management teaching professionals in Indonesia.

The 2nd short course delivered by Professor David Landriault from university of Waterloo was focused on Actuarial Mathematics for Life Contingent Risk. The objective was to provide the participants with a foundational knowledge in the valuation of life anuities with discrete and continuous payment streams as well as level and non-level payment amount, general principles for premium calculations of the insurance and annuity policies, and technical foundation in policy valuation for insurance or annuity policies. Readi’s Acruatial Science Training Specialist, Giovani Gracianti, acted as a teaching assistant to provide both translation and instructional support.

Short course Actuarial Mathematics II was attended by 32 participants (14 females, 18 males) who are either lectures from 8 partner universities or working in the government agency (Ministry of Finance). The participants enjoyed doing the complementary practical examples which helped them understand the lectures better. They were focused and enggaged in class and able to follow lectures quite well.

Ferry Jaya Permana, Dean of Faculuty of Information Technology and Science at Parahyangan University, shared that he really enjoyed the course since the lecturer was very communicative and the practical assignemnts given would enrich his teaching skills. Bagus Pracoyo from Ministry of Finance praises the short course as very useful to him as government officers working in the department which regulating the actuarial profession in insurance industry. Sri Fratama, lecturer from University of Indonesia, said the course has increased her practical analysis skills and the small size class also benefiting the participants.

The next short course will be on July 24 – 26, 2017 in Jakarta.
