Are you interested in research at the intersection of 5G and sports & media, including human performance and data analytics?

Join Rogers and MLSE for an exciting, hands-on research ideation workshop at the University of Waterloo to identify the next round of Sponsored Research!

Attend a pre-workshop webinar (July 6)

Attend post-workshop office hours (July 25)

As part of the Rogers-University of Waterloo 5G Partnership, Rogers and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE) are jointly hosting an ideation workshop at the University. MLSE is Canada’s leader in delivering top-quality sports and entertainment experiences. It is the parent company of the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs, National Basketball Association’s Toronto Raptors, Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC, Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts, and numerous development teams, including Toronto Marlies (American Hockey League), Raptors 905 (NBA G League) and the Toronto FC II (MLS NEXT Pro League). MLSE owns and operates all venues its teams play and train in, including the Scotiabank Arena, the BMO Field, the Coca-Cola Coliseum, the Ford Performance Centre, the BMO Training Ground, and the OVO Athletic Centre. MLSE also provides fans in Toronto with incredible live music and entertainment events.

The purpose of this four-hour working session is to inspire research partnerships on campus and match research opportunities to exciting industry use cases. In the workshop, we will review 5G and its benefits, pitch real business problems in sports and media, and ideate with fellow faculty members, researchers, industry and technology adopters around possible research opportunities. Following the workshop, researchers will be invited to submit proposals for two-year sponsored research projects with Rogers and MLSE (with a potential one-year extension).
