From Niche to Mainstream: The Evolution of Implantable Collamer Lenses

  • Manreet Alangh, MD, FRCS(C)

COPE ID: 104811-PO (1 hour)

This lecture reviews the evolution of implantable Collamer lens (ICL) technology within the changing refractive surgery landscape, including declining laser vision correction volumes, patient concerns about refractive surgery, and growing interest in non-corneal refractive options. Participants will consider the clinical rationale for ICL followed by an evidence-informed review of published safety and visual outcome data. Through anonymized case examples, the lecture will explore candidacy assessment, postoperative visual outcomes, intraocular pressure considerations, lens position, vault assessment, and the integration of ICL into contemporary refractive surgery decision-making.

11:30 AM - 12:20 PM

Cataract Surgery Complications: A Condition-by-Condition Approach to Co-Management

COPE ID: 104862-PO (1 hour)

This lecture examines the intraoperative and postoperative implications of complicated cataract surgery, with emphasis on recognizing key clinical findings and understanding how surgical events can influence IOL outcomes. Participants will develop a practical framework for monitoring and managing complex post-cataract cases in the optometric setting, including consideration of manual small incision cataract surgery indications, technique, and potential complications.
