Professor Meehan’s research interests are centred on 1) the brain circuitry that integrates sensory inputs about the body and environment into the motor commands that govern skilled motor behaviours, 2) how the role of these different sensorimotor circuits changes with skill acquisition, and 3) how cognitive factors, such as the allocation of attention, shape sensorimotor integration.
Professor Meehan’s research program uses cutting-edge methods to non-invasively study the brain-behaviour relationship, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and electroencephalography (EEG), to enhance our sensorimotor integration mechanistic knowledge and identify how sensorimotor mechanisms change following acquired brain injury.
Professor Meehan joined the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences as an assistant professor in the summer of 2018. Previously, he was an assistant professor in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan from 2011-2018.
