Joshua Taylor-Detlor (he/him)
Hi Shads! I’m Joshua Taylor-Detlor (he/him), a proud member of the Haudenosaunee Mohawk Wolf Clan and the new Program Manager for Shad Waterloo. As an honours graduate of UWaterloo’s Environment, Resources, and Sustainability program, I’ve spent years weaving Indigenous perspectives—rooted in reciprocity, land stewardship, and decolonization—into education and community work. Whether supporting youth-led innovation at United College’s GreenHouse or collaborating with the Haudenosaunee Confederacy on governance projects, I’m driven by the belief that systemic change starts with empowering the next generation.
This summer, I’m thrilled to combine my passions for mentorship, environmental justice, and collaborative problem-solving in the Shad ecosystem! I love helping students explore how STEAM and entrepreneurship equip us to tackle real-world challenges. Ask me about building community, the parallels between traditional governance and modern leadership, or how iced coffee fuels my best brainstorming sessions. When I’m not on campus, I’m soaking up blue skies on forest walks, laughing with friends over RPG campaigns, or waiting in line for my next iced coffee.
I believe that Shad’s magic lies in its ability to connect curious minds—I can’t wait to learn, innovate, and laugh with you all this July. Let’s co-create something meaningful!
