To enhance visual comfort using proportional–integral–derivative and machine learning controllers
Technology & Design
Description
Mechatronic systems have gained significance throughout the years due to the increasing development of smart building solutions. The implementation of these systems allows occupant interaction and environmental adaptation of the dynamic facades to achieve goals such as energy optimization, visual and thermal comfort, etc. This project evaluated the performance of a mechatronic solution implemented using a PID controller and a machine learning controller into different dynamic façade designs based on the response time of the system and its capability of ensuring visual comfort. The project emphasized the importance of light distribution in achieving visual comfort, and a well-designed façade that can adapt to its surroundings is crucial. It was concluded that the façade should adapt based on historical data and further investigation on ML using historical meteorological data is needed to analyze the influence of different seasons.
