To assess heat transfer impact on concrete from welding procedures
Materials Science & Engineering
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL)
Description
This project aims to investigate the thermal effects of welding on metal components embedded in or near concrete nuclear containment structures, particularly in CANDU reactors. By conducting research to determine the temperatures sustained by concrete during welding, the project seeks to reduce the need for costly and time-consuming engineering assessments. This project will help develop welding procedures that minimize thermal stresses on reinforced concrete, ensuring compliance with CSA N287.3 temperature guidelines and enhancing the safety and efficiency of welding operations near concrete structures in nuclear facilities.
