Approval of the Minutes of Previous Meeting

The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted as distributed.

WCMS 3 Horizontal Navigation Project & Nav Working Group (Tom Graham)

  • Nav Working Group will begin meeting next week to workshop a new navigation for WCMS 3.
  • Working Group members represent all 6 faculties, Advancement, CEE, GSPA, MUR, IST, SSO, and UR.
  • We have a series of check-ins along the way to confirm continuation of the horizontal menu project to minimize the risk of delays to the overall development project.
  • Goal is to have a new navigation designed by the end of September and for navigation development to commence at that time.

Questions:

  • Adrian Kennedy asked about the risks section on the extended timeline.
  • Derek Leung asked when the updated project timeline was sent out, and Chris Francis responded August 11.
  • Chris Francis asked about an opportunity to join the Navigation Working Group. Tom responded that he is happy to stick with the current members, but if there is strong interest to join he can inquire with the Web Steering Committee.
  • Chris Francis asked how bad would it have to be for us to abandon the horizontal navigation project. Tom responded if we run out of time.
  • Michelle Douglas-Mills said that part of the reason why we want horizontal navigation is so that we gain access to the spaces on the left and right of the body, which could mean changes in the margins.

Roles changes in WCMS 3 (Kevin Paxman)

Download the "Roles in WCMS 3" PowerPoint presentation (PPT)

Questions:

  • Michelle Douglas-Mills asked about removing access to the home page banners for the site managers role.
  • Elizabeth Rogers asked whether it would be possible to add a "Viewer" role, so that the 'viewers' can see a page or content before it is published. Danielle Jeanneault and Adrian Kennedy supports this idea.

Survey Summary (Andrea Jennings)

Download the "WCMS Kitchen Sink Survey" PowerPoint presentation (PPT)

In an effort to continue our ongoing consultations with campus about the WCMS 3 rebuild project, IST's Web Development team conducted a WCMS Kitchen sink survey to gather feedback from WCMS users on some general questions we have for the WCMS 3 project.

The survey was available to all WCMS content maintainers for a period of approximately two weeks and received submissions from 64 participants. Your participation in our consultation efforts is greatly appreciated and will help to drive decision-making as we progress through this project.

WCMS Training/Support update (Andrea Jennings)

WCMS course offerings

Classroom offerings of our WCMS courses will not be offered at this time. Anyone needing to complete the training can do so via LEARN.

Drop-in lab

We are back - virtually!

Have a question, or need some help with your website? A virtual drop-in lab will be open every Thursday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. to provide WCMS content maintainers one-on-one website and training support.

WCMS Technical Update (Kevin Paxman)

  • Demo sites for WAC are running the test release of 2.9.0
    • WAC members were emailed this afternoon with links and preliminary release notes
    • Just a couple of bugs (or potential bugs) that we know about and are trying to fix before release
    • Release date TBD
  • Focus points in this sprint include (detailed list available):
    • Assorted cleanup of previous work
    • New date and location fields for events
    • Populating menus and creating menu blocks for dashboard
    • Document how we might do a more flexible expand/collapse, given the “kitchen sink” survey showed a wide variety of uses
    • Initial build artifact for Pantheon
