Approval of the minutes of September meeting

The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted as distributed.

Business arising

  • There was a discussion on alternates to the official UW fonts. Tom Graham will touch base with Creative Services to further explore alternates.
  • Joe Kwan received feedback on the updates to the domain name management policy. Joe will incorporate these changes and will redistribute it.

WCMS technical update (Kevin Paxman)

  • Note from Training and Support that courses can now be registered for in Workday.
  • Google has sent notification that our sites will now be indexed with "mobile first indexing". We do not expect this to have any effects one way or the other on our search results.
  • Pilot sites were updated to 2.7.0 last night; production will be updated next week. Please report and issues noticed ASAP. Release notes: WCMS 2.7.0 Release.
  • We will begin working on assembling 2.7.1 in our next sprint, and are aiming to have the release take significantly less time that the 2.7.0 release.
  • Focus points in this sprint include developing a visual regression tool for automated testing, Open Scholar, beginning work on "recoupling" Publications, assorted fixes, and some proper towards revamping back up for Drupal 8 development. The full list will be on the Web Resources site's web development roadmap page in the next few days.
  • Recording of Friday morning seminar from December 14th: "Whatever Happened to Drupal 8?"is now available: IST Seminar

  • Drupal 7.62 came out today Drupal 7.62 release and we are evaluating how to proceed.

SEO and Single Page Sites discussion (Daniella Cross)

  • Question was brought forward as to see if anyone else is experiencing lack of traffic flow to their single page sites:
    • at this time no one in the group was experiencing the same problem
    • Daniella will further pursue this with the WCMS team
    • There was a question about whether single-page sites fell into the ‘decoupled’ category, but it was clarified that they do not, they behave the same way as ‘FDSU’ sites.

Fixing Inaccessible Websites, a Demo (Liam Morland)

  • A live demonstration was conducted on using the W3c HTML Validator and the WAVE toolbar: WC3 and WAVE     
  • It was also mentioned that IST offers accessibility reviews/help on campus for making sites accessible.

Other Business 

  • Daniella Cross asked if there was an update on the iCal discussion (September 2018 meeting), where the “calendar” link will be renamed “export”
    • looking at rolling out new name when 2.7.1 gets rolled out.
