WCMS "people" survey

IST’s Web Development team launched a survey to gather feedback from WCMS Point of Contacts that will help inform how “people” information will be displayed on a website in WCMS 3. The survey closed yesterday afternoon, May 19, and now we’ll begin to review the submissions and compile a summary to share next month.

WCMS Technical Update (Joe Kwan)

  • Current development is focused on Drupal 8 core foundation and primary content types

WCMS 3 update (Greg Smith and Joe Kwan)

  • Patheon was awarded contract in April 2020.
  • Drupal 8 development & migration to launch late February/April.
  • Timeline - some dates will be moved based on updated information.
  • When it comes to training, will have to look be looking at mulitiple streams, what will it look like for new users, and retraining experienced WCMS users.
  • Joe mentioned that any questions/concerns can be emailed directly to him.
  • The powerpoint presentation on the WCMS 3 update is available online.

WCMS 3 Navigation (Tom Graham)

  • The powerpoint presentation on WCMS 3 Navigation is available online.
  • There was considerable discussion around this topic, to the point that it was agreed to a) have a followup meeting for those interested and b) that significant time would be given to this topic in subsequent meetings. There was both favorable responses to the proposed navigation, and also concern over the implementation for this new navigational structure. The pros for this new structure included that it was modern, appealing and 'freeing' from a design perspective and would 'encourage' a cleaner IA. The cons included the large amount of time required (especially during limited financial resources and increased workload) to rejig the IA, the limitations to the number of menu items, and the 'politics' of picking the menu items. It should be noted that these pros and cons are not mutually exclusive.
