Portal update (Pavol Chvala)

The Portal team provided an update to the committee on the Portal. Topics included:

  • New features
  • Student Design Kit
  • Event registration
  • Campus partnerships

View the full presentation on the Portal.

Comments & discussion

  • How do we get our student centric events into Portal?
    • All events are actually in the Portal but the current issue is discovery; they would need to subscribe to the events for a specific site to have them included in their feed.
  • The event registration tool is an excellent new feature that has had some interest from others on campus to use it for more events.

Graded browser support (Joe Kwan)

Other business

Accessible PDFs

  • There are still lots of people seeking help with making their PDFs accessible; are there any good resources out there that we can direct people to that would help with this?
    • Not a simple process unfortunately.
    • Liam Morland distributed information to the committee on webinars that can help with making PDFs and Word Documents accessible.

Web steering update

  • Continued the redirection discussion we had at the last WAC meeting; this is a bigger issue that the steering committee wants to address and discuss some of the logistics surrounding it.
    • It will be included in a revision to the campus domain name management policy which will be brought back to this committee following review by web steering.
  • Faculty presence on Web Steering has been discussed multiple times.
    • Previously had UCIST members attend but none have lasted longer than a meeting or two.
    • Happy to announce that we have invited Marlon Griffith to join the Web Steering Committee as a faculty representative.

Meeting adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 4:33 p.m.
