Waterloo Content Management System (WCMS) updates

Technical update (Kevin Paxman)

  • Drupal North conference highlights will be held at the Friday morning seminar, 9am in MC2009 on Friday, September 22.
  • Focus points in our current sprint, other than Drupal 8, include select bug fixes, responsive search, publications/conference sharing/search metadata, and Waterloo Stories.

Training update (Andrea Jennings)

Migrations and training – by the numbers

  • 710 sites live
  • 50 in progress on pilots
  • WCMS training courses: 3,748 attendees

What’s happening with the WCMS?

  • WCMS migration to responsive cut-off date – August 31, 2017 – has come and gone!
    • All WCMS sites are now in the responsive theme, including all non-English language sites!

All SEW courses offered throughout September and October are listed on the Web Resources website.

If you require special arrangements outside of the regular drop-in hours please contact Andrea, ajenning@uwaterloo.ca. Regularly scheduled WCMS Drop-in lab hours: Tuesdays & Thursdays - 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm in MC 2060.

…reminders!

  • Start of a new term is a great time to review site permissions!
  • Lynda.com IST-WCMS playlist is available. The playlist will answer questions like: What is responsive design? What is Drupal, and why do we use it? How do I create and maintain an effective website within the WCMS?

New Client Support Specialist, and Training and Support co-op student!

Sarah White (full-time contract) and Stefani Starivlah (fall co-op student) have joined our team!

Sarah and Stefani will be providing WCMS training and support, migration and quality assurance testing services, and creating and maintaining course and online documentation.

Redirect WCMS URL to non-WCMS website

  • An inquiry has been made regarding the possibility of having a redirect implemented to non-WCMS website.
    • Logistics regarding process, governance etc. will need to be discussed further but it is technically possible.
    • This topic will be discussed at the next Web Steering Committee meeting.

Department projects for Web: Arts Computing(Herbert Balagtas)

Herbert Balagtas presented on the Online Faculty Application System (OFAS). Topics included:

  • What is OFAS?
  • Features
    • Schedule start/end dates
    • Admin dashboard
    • Flexible job requirements and creation of new requirements
    • Multiple job committees
    • Referee emails and submission form
    • Option to send rejection letter to applicants

  • How much time is required to keep the back end running?
    • Once the instance is set up, it only requires updating occasionally for new features.
    • Minimum support for administrative coordinators once it’s set up.
