Huron Goldenrod

Solidago hispida var. huronensis Semple is native to the dunes of Lake Huron, further north along the shore of Lake Superior and in scattered sandy soils further east in Ontario.  It is a nearly glabrous plant.  Intermediates with some hairs occur along the margins of dunes into the habitats of var. hispida.  The variety is diploid 2n=18.  It can be similar to S. gillmanii but lacks the resinous vegetation and phyllaries of that tetraploid (2n=36) species.
