Addressing Student Resistance to Instructional Innovations

Description: In this workshop, we will explain why students do not always happily engage with new instructional methods, drawing on your examples and some of those from research done with UWaterloo students. We will then discuss various strategies that you can employ to help address student resistance to pedagogical innovations. 

Learning Outcomes. After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain students’ resistance to instructional innovations using the Reasoned Action Approach (Fishbein & Ajzen, 2011)
  • Develop strategies to address students’ resistance

Note: This course cannot be used as credit for any graduate student programs that are offered by the Centre for Teaching Excellence.
