Rutherfordium, 104, LaurenHill Academy, St-Laurent Quebec
Rutherfordium: After attending the Gairdner Lecture at McGill University with our chemistry class, we visited the Otto Maass Chemistry Building and the Rutherford Physics Building. In the entrance of the latter was a bust of the physicist whose name is honored by element 104. So I decided to sketch him on the tile and also to include his Nobel-prize winning gold foil experiment in which a few alpha particles shockingly bounced back. According to Rutherford it was like "firing a 15-inch shell at a piece of tissue paper and it came back and hit you."
