Core Development: Building Community through Innovation and Collaboration

Workshop Overview:

Innovation is at the core of who we are at the University of Waterloo – it’s the cornerstone upon which we were built and we continue to pride ourselves in sustaining this powerful cultural element. But how do we do this? What creates an environment that transforms and empowers ideas into meaningful outcomes? In this workshop, we explore the partnership between innovation and collaboration as an integral part of our community experience. We will discuss how to tap into our collective curiosity to build a mindset focused on continuous improvement in the spirit of connecting imagination with impact.   

This workshop includes a short breakout room experience to complete a small group activity. 

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Identify our innovation mindset using a diffusion model 

  • Recognize the benefits of collaboration and coordination done well 

  • Connect our understanding of innovation and collaboration to envisioning our future in community at the University of Waterloo 

  • Set our own action step to apply what we’ve learned 

Preparation/Pre-requisites: 

Pre-workshop self-directed learning (20-30 min) will be shared 2-3 days in advance of the worksop via a calendar invitation.  

Intended Audience: 

All UWaterloo employees. New employees are encouraged to take the Core Development series of workshops within their first 18 months.

Virtually facilitated online synchronous workshop 

Duration: 

  • Pre-workshop self-directed learning (20-30 min) 

  • Virtually Facilitated Workshop (90min)  

  • Post-Session Goal and Feedback (15min)
