Current premiums and subsidies

  • The recommended subsidy for Plant Operations safety shoes/boots is $200 per year (or $300 for one pair every two years) where required by the nature of the job.
  • The recommended subsidy for Food Services non-slip shoes is $115 per year, for purchasing up to two pairs, where required by the nature of the job.
    • Effective May 1, 2023, the recommended subsidy for Food Services non-slip shoes is a maximum of $125.00 per year for purchasing up to two (2) pairs of shoes.
    • Effective May 1, 2023, the recommended subsidy for Food Services staff who have been deemed to require green patch non-slip work boots, will instead receive a maximum allowance of $200.00 per year for one (1) pair of work boots, or a maximum allowance of $300.00 for one (1) pair every two (2) years.
  • The recommended subsidy for Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved safety glasses is $225 every two years, where required by the nature of the job.
  • Shift premium effective May 1, 2021, is $1.30 for each hour on any shift which starts between 3:00 pm and 9:59 pm., except for any twelve (12) hours shifts.
    • Shift premium effective May 1, 2023, is $1.35 for each hour on any shift which starts between 3:00 pm and 9:59 pm., except for any twelve (12) hours shifts.
  • Shift premium effective May 1, 2021, is $1.40 for any eight (8) hour shift which starts between 10:00 pm and 4:59 a.m. and any twelve (12) hour shift which starts between 7:00 pm. and 4:59 a.m.
  • Any staff member who is required to work overtime which immediately extends her/his normal work day by more than two hours is entitled to a meal allowance of $20.
