Facilitating with Confidence

Date/Time:

Monday, May 6, 2024 | 9:30 AM (EDT) - 4:30 PM (EDT)

Workshop Overview:

Are you looking to improve your facilitation skills - either for the presentations you do or for the meetings you lead? This workshop is ideal for those already facilitating and those looking to hone their skills while preparing to facilitate more.

Through demonstration and experiential opportunities, tangible tips for tailoring facilitation to your specific audiences, increasing participation and discussion, and for addressing potential challenging behaviours will be provided via a hands-on, supportive workshop. You will be encouraged to identify your personal facilitation style and to gain more confidence despite the discomfort often associated with public speaking. And we will discuss tools you can use to properly structure and implement visual aids within your facilitation so that you can better capture your audience’s attention with effective message delivery. This workshop will culminate in a low-stakes practice opportunity which will be accompanied by immediate feedback from the facilitator and fellow attendees.

FYIs:

  • Folks who have participated in OHD’s Facilitation Fundamentals programming (previously delivered over 2-days in person) will be familiar with this content. We have refreshed the workshop to better suit a condensed 1-day, in person experience.

  • This workshop centers the conversation around facilitation of in person meetings and presentations. We are aiming to offer a workshop in the spring term that centers facilitation tips and tools for virtual offerings. Please stay tuned to OHD’s website and portal listings or newsletter for details closer to.

Learning Outcomes:

Participating in this workshop will enable you to better:

  • Recognize the importance of planning, preparation and knowing who your audience is for successful facilitation.

  • Discover your own facilitation style and learn to lean into that style more fulsomely.

  • Identify tools you can integrate into your facilitation tool kit and to know when different tools are most applicable.

  • Continue to build your confidence in overcoming any discomfort or uncertainty you have when facilitating by providing an opportunity to practically apply the knowledge and skills learned in the workshop.
